About Bremerhaven

Bremerhaven is a port city in northern Germany, located at the mouth of the Weser River where it flows into the North Sea. With approximately 118,000 inhabitants, it forms part of the federal state of Bremen despite being geographically separated from the city of Bremen by about 60 kilometers. Founded in 1827 as Bremen's deep-water harbor, the city developed rapidly as a major emigration port.

The German Emigration Center (Deutsches Auswandererhaus) documents the history of over seven million Europeans who departed for America through Bremerhaven between 1830 and 1974. The German Maritime Museum (Deutsches Schifffahrtsmuseum) features historic vessels, including a Hanseatic cog from 1380, and extensive maritime exhibits. The Climate House (Klimahaus) is an interactive science center where visitors experience different climate zones along the 8th degree of longitude.

Bremerhaven's economy centers on its deep-water port, which handles container ships, automobiles, and fish processing. The city is Europe's largest fishing port and maintains significant refrigerated storage facilities. The Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research conducts important climate and ocean research. Bremerhaven's harbor promenade offers seafood restaurants and maritime atmosphere. The city continues evolving as a maritime and logistics hub while developing renewable energy sectors, particularly offshore wind power industries.
