Moscow Metro Map
Description:
This map shows Moscow Metro lines and stations.
The Moscow Metro, inaugurated on May 15, 1935, is one of the world's largest and busiest rapid transit systems, serving Moscow, Russia. The system consists of 16 lines spanning 519.4 kilometers (322.7 miles) and includes 300 stations, making it the fifth-longest metro system globally.
Known for its architectural significance, many Moscow Metro stations are considered masterpieces of Socialist Realist art. The most notable examples include Komsomolskaya, Novoslobodskaya, and Mayakovskaya stations, featuring elaborate mosaics, sculptures, and chandeliers. During World War II, metro stations served as bomb shelters, and the system continued operating throughout the conflict.
The Moscow Metro uses a color-coded system for its lines and operates from 5:30 AM until 1:00 AM the following day. During peak hours, trains arrive every 90 seconds on the busiest lines. The system carries approximately 9 million passengers daily, making it the world's sixth-busiest metro system by annual ridership.
Technologically advanced features include a contactless payment system, Wi-Fi coverage throughout all stations and trains, and real-time train arrival information. The metro's average operating speed is 41.61 kilometers (25.85 miles) per hour. The system continues to expand, with new stations and lines under construction to serve Moscow's growing population.
Safety features are prominent throughout the system, with all stations equipped with security cameras and emergency communication systems. The metro employs over 60,000 people and maintains strict punctuality standards, with 99.99% of trains running on schedule. Interestingly, the deepest station, Park Pobedy, is located 84 meters (276 feet) underground and has the longest escalators in Europe at 126 meters (413 feet) long.
