British Columbia National Parks

British Columbia, Canada's westernmost province, is home to seven national parks covering diverse landscapes from coastal beaches to mountain ranges. These parks protect approximately 12.5% of the province's territory, preserving unique ecosystems and wildlife habitats.

The most visited park is Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, which attracted 1.2 million visitors in 2021-2022. Established in 1970 with an area of 285.8 km², it's divided into three sections: Long Beach, Broken Group Islands, and the West Coast Trail. The park features temperate rainforests, sandy beaches, and is popular for surfing and whale watching.

Mount Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks received 727,000 visitors combined, while Yoho National Park welcomed 538,000 visitors. Covering 1,313 km², Yoho contains the second-highest waterfall in Canada (Takakkaw Falls) and is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Kootenay National Park had 510,000 visitors, while Gulf Islands National Park Reserve recorded 30,720 visitors. The most remote park, Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve on Haida Gwaii archipelago, had only 752 visitors in 2021-2022. This 1,495 km² park is co-managed by the Haida Nation and the Canadian government, and includes SGang Gwaay (Ninstints), a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring ancient Haida village remains.
