Alberta Road Map

Description:
This map shows cities, towns, highways, main roads, secondary roads, rivers, lakes, national parks, and provincial parks in Alberta.

Alberta Provincial Highway Network is maintained by the Ministry of Transportation and Economic Corridors and comprises over 64,000 lane kilometers of roads, equivalent to approximately 31,400 kilometers. The network includes more than 4,800 bridges and interchanges, making it one of the most extensive highway systems in Canada. Over 58,000 lane kilometers of the provincial network are paved, while the remainder consists of unpaved roads.

Highway 2, also known as the Queen Elizabeth II Highway, is the longest and busiest highway in Alberta, stretching 1,273 kilometers from the U.S. border at Carway to Grande Prairie. The highway carries over 170,000 vehicles per day near Calgary. The section between Calgary and Edmonton was officially renamed the Queen Elizabeth II Highway on May 23, 2005, forming the central axis of the Calgary-Edmonton Corridor, where more than half of Alberta's population resides.

Alberta's highway system includes two numbered series: highways 1-216 form the core network, while highways 500-986 serve as local and rural routes. Highway 1 and Highway 16 are part of the Trans-Canada Highway system. The province allocates over $2.8 billion over three years for road and bridge infrastructure, including capital investment and maintenance projects.
