Lund University, established in 1666, ranks among Scandinavia's oldest and most prestigious educational institutions. Located in southern Sweden, it consistently places among the world's top 100 universities and serves approximately 44,000 students.
The university encompasses eight faculties offering over 300 degree programs and 2,000 individual courses. Notable facilities include the MAX IV Laboratory, the world's most powerful synchrotron radiation facility, and the upcoming European Spallation Source (ESS), set to be the world's most powerful neutron source.
The historic main university building, constructed in 1882, is situated in central Lund alongside the magnificent Lund Cathedral, dating back to 1145. The university's Botanical Garden, established in 1690, houses over 7,000 plant species and serves both research and recreational purposes.
Lund University has educated numerous notable alumni, including two Nobel laureates, and maintains extensive international partnerships with over 600 universities worldwide. The institution's library system, comprising 27 libraries, holds more than 2 million volumes and significant special collections. Research at Lund University spans multiple disciplines, with particular strength in areas such as climate change, nanotechnology, and cancer research. The university currently hosts approximately 8,000 international students from over 130 countries.
