São Tomé and Príncipe is an island nation located in the Gulf of Guinea, off the western equatorial coast of Central Africa. The country consists of two main islands situated about 140 kilometers apart, lying approximately 250 kilometers off the coast of Gabon. The archipelago is positioned near the intersection of the Equator and the 7th degree of east longitude. These volcanic islands are part of a chain of extinct volcanoes that includes the islands of Bioko and Annobón.
